About Us

 

The mission of the Doctoral Schools from the Institution Organizing University Doctoral Studies of George Emil Palade University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology of Târgu Mureş  https://www.umfst.ro/doctorat.html is to discover, protect, promote and disseminate knowledge and research in the medical, pharmaceutical field, to support creative work and to promote medical culture and multiculturalism beyond the community of Târgu Mureş.

 

In order to form a new generation of researchers, our Doctoral Schools ensures the training of PhD students through teaching activities, seminars, evaluation, scientific research, development, activities appropriate for each PhD study field. The Doctoral School organizes an advanced medical-pharmaceutical research master, and it aims at achieving high-quality standards through the rigorous selection of PhD candidates and PhD supervisors.

 

The Doctoral School of Medicine and Pharmacy was founded in 1965, having 58 years of doctoral training. Since 1990, 989 PhD theses have been defended and have received the confirmation order. Currently, the Doctoral School organizes 11 annual courses (35% of which are held by associate professors from UK, Sweden, etc.) and includes PhD studies for three main domains: Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry.  Currently, a number of 85 PhD supervisors are working in our institution, guiding 389 PhD students.

 

The Doctoral School of Letters, Humanities and Applied Sciences was founded in 2007 and now includes the Philology, History, Engineering and Management, Informatics, and Business Administration domains. Since the establishment, 148 PhD theses have been finalized and confirmed by CNATDCU. The Doctoral School of Letters, Humanities and Applied Sciences comprises a number of 26 PhD supervisors and 118 PhD students.

 

The internationalization of the Doctoral School is the permanent concern of UMPhST G.E. Palade Tg. Mureș and IOSUD, the stimulation of the internationalization process being the main objective that is achieved through the stimulation of cotutelle PhD programs.

 

The Master Program of Advanced Medico-Pharmaceutical Scientific Research is a master's degree program organized by the Doctoral School, founded in 2013. Since its beginning, there have been 541 graduates in total, and 58 students enrolled in 2023. The curriculum is up-to-date, harmonized and compatible with other universities; it is based on content, scientific level, and coherence. Graduates get 70 transferable credits and obtain the master's degree in medical-pharmaceutical research.

 

The Doctoral School’s achievements in the academic year 2022-2023: a  high number of  PhD theses defenses, an increase in the number of PhDs in cotutelle with prestigious universities from abroad, a greater admission competition, an increased number of publications and impact factors for PhD students and PhD supervisors.
